Assured Breeder Scheme
and Fit for Life,Fit for Function

 

 

Assured BREEDER SCHEME - FIT FOR LIFE, FIT FOR FUNCTION

 

We are members of the Kennel Club's Assured Breeder Scheme (ABS) and also members of both the German Shepherd Breed Council and the Pug Dog Breed Club and have signed up to their breeder's charters.

 

As caring, responsible breeders, we have always carried out far more health screening checks then are required by the ABS/The Kennel Club.

 

Further to these charters, all our breeding Pugs have been x rayed for hemivertebrae and hip dysplacia and are all screened as clear. Test results may be inspected upon request.

 

All of our German Shepherd dogs are x-rayed and scored for hips and elbows ( some of the older dogs are not screened for elbows as they were x-rayed prior to the scheme being introduced).

We will only breed from low scoring animals who are well below the breed average of 19, most of our current breeding stock have scores of well under 10.

Our GSD males are blood tested for hemophilia
 and are clear.

 

All our dogs are currently microchipped  and all breeding stock are DNA profiled.

Our black Pugs are DNA coat colour tested so we KNOW which colours they can produce.

 Our puppies go to their new homes with their kennel club registration documents, pedigree, they are microchipped, come with a very detailed puppy information pack (including diet details and worming dates) and a health certificate from our vet, having been checked over a few days prior to going to their new homes.

 We offer a lifetime of interest, advice and support, which we feel any caring breeder would insist on  offering.

 

Accredited Breeder Scheme

 

The scheme, which is voluntary and promotes good breeding practices, giving prospective owners the best opportunity to bring home a healthy well adjusted puppy.

 

The Scheme currently has the following requirements, Accredited Breeders must:

 

 
  1. Ensure that all breeding stock are Kennel Club registered. 
  2. Hand over the dog's registration certificate at time of sale if available, or forward it to the new owner as soon as possible. Explain any endorsements that might pertain and obtain written and signed confirmation from the new owner, at or before the date on which the dog is physically transferred, that the new owner is aware of the endorsement(s), regardless of whether or not the endorsed registration certificate is available. 
  3. Follow Kennel Club policy regarding maximum age and number/frequency of litters. 
  4. Permanently identify breeding stock by DNA profile, microchip, or tattoo. 
  5. Make use of health screening schemes, relevant to their breed, on all breeding stock. These schemes include DNA testing, hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia and inherited eye conditions.  Current health requirements under the ABS (pdf). 
  6. Socialise the puppies and provide written advice in the Puppy Sales pack on continuation of socialisation, exercise and future training. 
  7. Provide written advice Puppy Sales pack on feeding and worming programmes. 
  8. Provide a written record in the Puppy Sales pack on any immunisation that has taken place. 
  9. Provide reasonable post-sales e-mail/telephone advice.
  10. Inform buyers of the requirements and the recommendations that apply to Kennel Club Accredited Breeders as well as the existence of the complaints procedure. 
  11. Draw up a contract of sale for each puppy and provide a copy in the Puppy Sales Wallet.

 

 

 

Pugs who are Fit for Function, Fit for Life

 

 The Pugs role has always been that of a companion dog, being a dog who is happiest with human companionship and being included in whatever its family are involved in.......be it country walks or snuggling up next to you on the settee.

 

We always endevour to only breed from fit, healthy Pugs who do not exhibit any breathing problems and do not have the over exaggerated protruding eyes, and who are able to lead a normal active life suited to a dog of their size and conformation.

All of our Pugs are regularly exercised alongside my German Shepherd Dogs on our small farm, and most of them certainly do their best to keep up with the bigger dogs !!!
